The Marco Gonzalez Maya Site Project needs your help. The Park will be the location of a
Visitors Center housing Mayan artifacts from the site with visual aids of the Maya island lifestyle and
History. The Center will also have an Educational Center for our over 2,000 children on the island so
that they may gain a better understanding of their heritage. A gift shop will offer Mayan products,
educational books and souvenirs.
To reach the site (see Maps), a visitor must cross over mangrove marshland. A footbridge will stretch
over one-quarter of a mile from road to high ground of Marco Gonzalez. Along the way, there will be
covered platforms extending from the bridge where people can rest or simply enjoy the flora and fauna
and eco system of birding. Interpretive boards will be placed along the way to identify and educate
the visitor. Add to this the need for support buildings of restrooms, security and storage.
Total cost for this project is estimated at $1mil USD.
